Activity and Assessment Record

What is the Activity and Assessment Record?

Tutors complete this record in the last 5-10 minutes of each session, using it to form the basis of a ‘plenary’. The A & A Record includes the date of the session, the tutor’s name and 2-3 sentences on the work covered. It can also include notes on how the session went and/or any other key information. It also includes the ‘next steps’ – outlining the focus of the next session. The next session may include further work to consolidate or extend understanding or could be a whole new area of focus.

Why do we complete an Activity and Assessment Record?

We complete the A and A for a number of reasons. It helps our students to recognise the work they have achieved in a session and, critically, gives them a chance to inform the targets for the next session. This reduces anxiety and helps to insure that the voice of our young people is heard. The A and A is also incredibly helpful as a means of communicating between tutors when a student has a multi-tutor placement. Sharing things that went well or any information relevant to tuition can really help any partner tutors to stay informed prior to their next session. The A and A is also very helpful in the event of tutor absence – allowing the cover tutor to get a feel for the work under way. Additionally it provides schools and local authorities with a good overview of the work being covered.

Where would I find the Activity and Assessment Record for my student?

A link to your student’s A and A will be emailed to you at the time of booking. If a student has more than one tutor, you will both have the same link.
